The story of Manito National High School begins in 1966, a time of hope and growing educational aspirations in the community. With just 79 pioneering students – 40 boys and 39 girls – and Mr. Noe Arbo as their first class adviser, Manito Rural High School opened its doors. Mr. Leandro E. Lanuzo, then Principal of Manito Elementary School, took on the role of School Head, guiding these early learners.
Under the leadership of Division Superintendent Mr. Clodualdo H. Leocardi, the school embraced the General Secondary Curriculum. The initial years, from 1966 to 1969, saw modest beginnings with single sections for first and second-year students. Due to resource constraints, third and fourth-year students attended Albay High School in Legazpi City from 1968 to 1970.
In 1970, a turning point arrived with the appointment of Mrs. Rosita Dave as Principal. The school was renamed Manito Barrio High School, and for the first time, third-year students began their studies within the school itself. The school's early operations were supported by tuition fees paid by the students. This era culminated in 1971-1972 with the school's first Commencement Exercises, celebrating the achievements of 32 graduates.
During these formative years, Manito Barrio High School found a temporary home within the unused classrooms of Manito Central Elementary School. A significant milestone occurred in 1994 when the school acquired its current 20,000-square-meter campus, generously donated by Mr. Reymundo Baylon. This new location, situated 44 kilometers from the Division Office of Albay, provided a dedicated space for the growing school community.
In 2000, during the leadership of Mrs. Natividad Rapisora, the school was renamed Manito National High School, reflecting its evolving role and stature within the educational landscape.
The school's commitment to expanding access to education continued with the establishment of extension campuses. In 1998, Manito High School, Cawayan Extension opened its doors with Ms. Emma Burcer as the inaugural Teacher-In-Charge. Two years later, in 2000, Manito High School, Nagotgot Extension welcomed its first students under the leadership of Mrs. Sancita B. Peñarubia.
This journey, marked by resilience, innovation, and the dedication of countless educators, teachers, and staff, has shaped Manito National High School into the vibrant institution it is today.
